Inner city kids go bush

DNMK has launched a new bush kinder program aimed at giving inner-city kids the opportunity to connect with the environment, providing opportunities to solve problems and manage risks in ways that cannot be achieved within a small inner city courtyard or even the surrounds of DNMK.

As part of the four-year-old kinder program, children can engage in play within the bounds of the bush kindergarten within Burnley Park. Led by their kinder teacher and support educators, this play based program allows children to create their play spaces using only what nature provides.

Children have the chance to navigate challenges and changes that may be out of their control, such as the weather, change in seasons and changes to the environment from week to week ultimately building resilience and confidence.

The program aims to foster an understanding of First Nations culture and connection to the land and develop the children’s own identities as future caretakers of our country and world.
