There are many well-documented benefits associated with attending sessional kindergarten.
Children at DNMK attend their session on set days with the same group of children. The strong community between the educators, the children and the parents is woven through shared drop-off and pick-up chats, weekend catchups, kinder group events and of course the kinder sessions themselves.
One of the most important characteristics that we notice is the sense of community fostered when children arrive at the same time each morning – this is also great preparation for commencing school.
At Dame Nellie Melba Kindergarten, parents can choose from two sessional kindergarten groups and nominate their preferred group. The sessional program follows school term dates and closes over school holidays.
There are two 3 year-old programs – the Honeyeaters (Mondays and Wednesdays) and the Kookaburras (Tuesdays and Thursdays)
Both programs run from 8.30am-1.30pm
There are also two 4 year-old programs – the Rainbow Lorikeets (Mondays and Wednesdays) and the Currawongs (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
Both sessions run from 8.30am to 4pm.
After the kinder sessions, parents can opt to utilise the extended-care programs (Wattlebirds) as well as the Friday Robins program.
